International Scientific Advisory Board
In November of 2024, the GraFOx community came together at the Erwin-Schrödinger-Zentrum, Berlin to reflect on their accomplishments and share scientific insights and recent findings from the past years.
Without a doubt, GraFOx has evolved from its initial focus as a science campus into an internationally recognized research network. It has transitioned from being a centrally organized entity to a research community-driven initiative, while also shifting its financial model from reliance on focused investments to self-sustaining funding.
The vision of the GraFOx project from its beginning has been to:
- – gain control over synthesis of sesquioxide semiconductors III2O3
- – use lessons learned from sesquioxides to complex (perovskite) oxides
- – assess their potential for novel devices
- – make them available for innovative applications
- – foster understanding and nurture applications of binary and complex oxides
GraFOx aspirations formed along the lines of:
- – pre-screen and down-select promising materials options
- – optimize their synthesis, lay the foundation towards scalability
- – demonstrate prototype functionality and bring GraFOx materials into the realms of industrial interest and commercial viability
The PIs joined GraFOX from the universities of Otto von Guericke Universität Magdeburg, Univesität Leipzig and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as from the institutions Paul-Drude-Institut für Festkörperelektronik, IKZ, Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Fritz-Haber-Institut and Helmholz Zentrum Berlin.
Throughout the 8 years of the project, GraFOx partners and associated partners at TU Berlin, Universität Tübingen, Ruhr-Universität Bochum and ISAS also formed the nodes of the GraFOx network.
Key achievements of the project include:
- – 18 Ph.D. theses and
- – 12 B.S and M.S. theses have been completed
- – 133 publications and co-publications have appeared in peer-reviewed journals
- – organization and hosting TCO 2024 Transparent Conductive Oxides – Fundamentals and Applications, organized by the University of Leipzig
- – organizing and hosting IWGO 2024, the 5th International Workshop on Gallium-Oxide and Related Materials
- – 60+ GraFOx network-wide student update talks at various conferences
- – 30+ invited internationally renowned invited speakers at the monthly GraFOx seminar series
